Katarina began skating on ice when she was five. The talent she displayed soon became apparent as she enrolled to a private school that caters that caters to children who have a passion for sports in Karl-Marx-Stadt. It was here that she was introduced to their coach Jutta Muller. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. From that moment on, her grace and elegance captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in the sport. Olympic Success at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's following a heatedly-contested competition. Witt won an even more close competition after four years. The free skater was unable to win, but she won the gold medal for the figures that were compulsory and the short program. Witt was the first repeated woman to win the women's figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film acting, then returned to figure skating in 1994 to compete at Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. Though she failed to take home a single gold medal, she enchanted fans despite her seventh place finish. Witt was named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in the year 1995.
